LONDON - World stock markets rose modestly Wednesday, though trading was listless as investors looked for direction, while the British pound continued to founder following weak industrial output figures. In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was up 6.42 points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,608.72 while Germany's DAX rose 18.07 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,903.96 The CAC-40 in France was 12.79 points, or 0.3 percent, higher at 3,922.80.
